Bairbre Redmond
Provost

As Provost of U21 Professor Redmond acts as lead academic and advisor, overseeing the strategic direction of the international network in worldwide student experience and mobility, education innovation and researcher engagement. In liaison with the network's Presidents and with the Senior Leaders for each of the member universities, she has responsibility for the overall direction and coherence of the network’s projects. She also identifies new areas of development where staff and students in the network's member universities can engage with U21’s shared initiatives that connect both students and staff.

Bairbre is seconded to U21 on a full-time basis from University College Dublin (UCD), where she is Professor of Higher Education. She continues to have a research interest in how effective approaches to reflective learning can be incorporated in curriculum design. For over a decade she has also been involved in a series of studies on stress, job satisfaction and burn-out in health service professionals.

Lavinia Winegar Gott
Educational Innovation Manager

Lavinia has primary responsibility for the administration of the Educational Innovation cluster and also assists with the efficient and effective running of the network more generally.

Lavinia has been a member of the U21 Secretariat team since 2004, wearing a variety of hats. Prior to joining U21, she spent 16 years in administration at one of the network’s member universities and six years in marketing for a company which engineered and designed marine interiors. Her previous work experience provided her with the skills necessary to successfully navigate the U21 landscape – administrative skills, marketing skills, and the ability to stay calmly afloat, while paddling like crazy beneath the surface!

She is an avid reader, enjoys writing and loves to spoil her many pets. At home in the US, she volunteers with a literacy advocacy group for disadvantaged youth. Travelling, meeting new people and learning about different cultures, as well as being a part of a network of people bringing innovative approaches to teaching and learning to our students, keeps her happily engaged.

Lavinia is also Deputy Secretary General of the network.

Ninna Makrinov
Student Experience Manager

Ninna has responsibility for student engagement across the U21 network. This involves evaluating, developing and implementing a range of activities and programmes which will contribute to the learning experiences and development of a global outlook for undergraduate and graduate students across the network.

Ninna joined the U21 Secretariat team in July 2015 after working and studying in three of our partner universities: the University of Nottingham, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Tecnológico de Monterrey. She has worked in research, teaching and professional services, including the International Office and Careers Office. She brings to the role a focus on the various aspects of student experience and a genuine interest an internationalisation that reaches all students, whether they are able to travel or not.

Out of work, Ninna likes to cycle with her two young sons, meet people from different cultures and read epic fantasy novels. She thinks an interesting fact about herself is how international her family is: she was born in Chile, and her sons in the UK and Mexico.
