Universitas 21 is
pleased to announce the inaugural U21 Teaching & Learning
Conference, Does Teaching & Learning Translate? to be held at the University of Glasgow from 21 to 22
February 2008. The primary aims of this
conference are
- to bring together the institutional leaders in teaching,
learning and academic development across the U21 network
- to discuss issues of common interest
- to highlight opportunities for collaboration in teaching and
research
- to establish peer networks across the U21 institutions.
The conference will be a mix of keynote lectures, conference
papers and workshops.
The U21 network provides an unparalleled opportunity to share
experiences and collaborate. This conference will establish the key
inter-institutional relationships required to realise this
potential.

We are delighted to announce four leading experts in their field
to give key-note addresses at the conference

Dr Diana G. Oblinger
Technology and the Global CommonsDr Oblinger is President
and CEO of EDUCAUSE, responsible for the association’s teaching and
learning activities and the director of the EDUCAUSE
Learning Initiative. EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association
whose mission is to advance higher education by promoting
the intelligent use of information technology. The current
membership comprises nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and
education organizations, including 200 corporations. She
also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Adult and Higher
Education at North Carolina State University.
Dr Oblinger is internationally known for
her leadership in teaching and learning with technology. She
is editor or co-editor of seven books and the author or
co-author of dozens of monographs and articles. Dr Oblinger
has received several awards for teaching, research and
distinguished service. She holds three degrees from Iowa
State University and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi
Kappa Phi and Sigma Xi. |

Dr Marcia Devlin
An International and Interdisciplinary Approach to
Curriculum: The Melbourne ModelDr
Marcia Devlin (PhD) is a Senior Lecturer in Higher Education
in the Centre for the Study of Higher Education at the
University of Melbourne in Australia. Her research involves
both theoretical and practical investigations into
contemporary higher education issues, policies, practices
and trends. Current national work includes sitting on the
National Advisory Group for the development and
implementation of the Australian Survey of Student
Engagement and working with the Indigenous Higher Education
Advisory Council to advise the federal Minister for
Education on Indigenous Higher
Education. She is frequently invited to deliver national and
international keynote addresses, workshops and seminars to
provide policy and practice advice on a range of topics
related to teaching, learning and quality in higher
education. |

Professor Kerri-Lee Krause
Transitions and translations: Making connections in the
first year
Professor Kerri-Lee Krause (PhD) is Chair
in Higher Education and Director, Griffith Institute for
Higher Education, Griffith University, Australia. Her
research expertise and experience spans broadly across
higher education policy areas, but her particular research
focus is the student experience in higher education. She
currently leads a national study of the teaching-research
nexus aimed at developing evidence-based resources for
academics and policy makers. She recently led the national
ten-year trend study of the first year experience in
Australian universities. A significant part of her work
involves providing policy and practical advice to university
academics and administrators on managing and responding to
the changing student experience in higher education.

Professor Ron Piper
Student engagement and the first year experience
Professor Ron Piper is Vice-Principal
(Governance & Planning) at St Andrew's University in
Scotland. A physics graduate of Pomona College,
California, and a New Testament graduate of Kings College,
London, Professor Piper was Head of the School of Divinity
at the University of St Andrews from 1992-2001 and Dean of
the Faculty of Divinity 2001-02. Between 2002 and 2003 he
was Research Fellow of the Centre of Theological Inquiry at
Princeton University, New Jersey, USA, returning to the
University of St Andrews as Vice-Principal (Learning and
Teaching). |

Conference fee
The conference fee of US$180 will cover all conference meals
(lunch and dinner on 21 February and lunch on
22 February), conference papers and venue hire.
Payment of conference fees will be by invoice, which will be sent
out after registration has closed. Places will not
be confirmed until payment is made.

Joining instructions
Registration for the conference will take place from
8am-9am on 21 February in the University Visitors' Centre, location
A11 on
the campus map. It is well signposted from the entry
points on University Avenue. The main conference proceedings take
place in the Senate Room, location A10, to which delegates will be
directed from the Visitors' Centre.
