Structure

Universitas 21 functions as a partnership of its members. Membership of the Board of Universitas 21 is made up of the Chief Executive Officers (Vice-Chancellors or Presidents) of the member institutions. A meeting of the Universitas 21 Board is held annually. The Executive Committee of Universitas 21 acts on behalf of the Board on the day to day operations of the company between Annual General Meetings.

The current Chair of Universitas 21 is Professor John Casteen, President of the University of Virginia, USA.  He is supported by a Secretariat based in Birmingham, UK, which consists of three people: Jane Usherwood (Secretary General), Clare Noakes (Administrator) and Tarlok Singh (Finance Administrator), assisted by Lavinia Johns in Virginia, USA.

To enable the network to operate as a legal entity, Universitas 21 is incorporated as Universitas 21 LBG, a company limited by guarantee and incorporated in Guernsey. Its directors are the presidents of the member universities. Its trademark and associated devices have been registered in some 18 countries. As a result of its engagement in the online joint venture, U21Global, Universitas 21 LBG has established two subsidiaries, U21pedagogica and U21 Equity Limited, both also incorporated in Guernsey.
