Universitas 21 welcomes two new members
Universitas 21 is delighted to announce that it has welcomed two world-class universities, The University of Zurich (Switzerland) and Waseda University (Japan) into the U21 network at its AGM at the University of Nottingham, 5 May 2017.
“The global standing of both of our new partners and the acknowledged quality of their education and research represents a hugely positive addition to the U21 community” said U21 Provost Prof Bairbre Redmond. “Both of our new partners have a very strong commitment to internationalistion and their membership of the network increases student mobility and exchange opportunities (from undergraduates to post-doctoral) across U21’s twenty-five research-intensive universities. Their contribution will also strengthen the U21 network’s projects and initiatives in Educational Innovation, Researcher Engagement and Students Experience and considerably enhances openings for U21 staff across the globe to share resources and expertise”.
The University of Zurich (UZH) is Switzerland's largest university with 26,000. Founded in 1833, UZH is one of the foremost universities in the German-speaking world. The university welcomes staff and students from all over the world and 55% of all professors, 42% of all PhD and 19% of all students at UZH are international. To date, twelve UZH scholars have been awarded the Nobel Prize. Their achievements have contributed considerably toward establishing the excellent reputation of the University.
Founded in 1882 and with 47,000 students, Waseda University is one of the most prestigious universities in Japan. With a very strong commitment to internationalism, Waseda Univeristy is No. 1 in Japan for Study Abroad with over 5,000 international students. It is also No 1 in Japan for the employability of graduates. Famous for its distinguished graduates, including seven of Japan’s Prime Ministers. Waseda alumni are very active and influential in such field as politics, law, journalism and mass communications, art and sports.
