Enrich your undergraduate
degree by completing the U21 Global Issues Programme while you study!
|
 |
The Global Issues Programme is a multi-disciplinary programme offered
by the Universitas 21 network to the students of the Universities of
British Columbia (Canada), Hong Kong (China), Melbourne (Australia) and Nottingham (United
Kingdom).
|
Global connections
Students complete fifty per cent of the programme
through at least one other partner university, whether online or during an exchange semester. With four universities to choose from, students can take
advantage of the programme’s innovative structure, learning about global
issues in a truly global context. |
|
 |
Global context
The programme is a formal course of study that will give you a global
context to your degree. It will help you understand topics of critical
importance in this globally-connected world; it will allow you to
develop your understanding of these topics with fellow students from
other countries, cultures, religions, and ethnicity. It will give you an
added advantage in seeking jobs after graduation, particularly with
companies that have an international outlook. |
Global studies
The Global Issues Programme includes approximately 100 subjects to choose from, including 20 offered online. Students complete one core subject and three electives, selecting either online or campus-based subjects, depending on their plans. Some of the subjects offered in 2008 include:

Description |

Perspective of Global Citizenship (online)
Taught by the University of British Columbia |
Just what does it mean to be a "global citizen"? When few
people even agree on what "global citizenship" means, this idea
is murky, even if a more just and tolerant future world is
compelling. In this highly interactive, interdisciplinary
and fully online course, you will consider themes relating to
global citizenship through debate, discussion and critical
analysis |
|
Asia, the Pacific & the West in History (online)
Taught by the University of Melbourne |
From Burma to Japan, Manchuria to Thailand, the Cook Islands to
Cambodia and Tibet, this subject will explore histories of Asia,
the Pacific and the West's involvement in these areas from the
16th century to the present, with an emphasis on 20th century
history. |
|
The Contemporary World Since 1945 (online) Taught by the
University of Nottingham |
The
module surveys and analyses some of the main developments in
world affairs since the end of the Second World War. This
includes major international events, particularly the course and
aftermath of the Cold War, as well as national and regional
histories, especially in Europe, East Asia and the Middle East.
Attention is paid to political and economic forces. |
