About

The two key RE Cluster groups, the Research Leaders (RL) and Deans and Directors of Graduate Studies (DDoGS), will be meeting at the University of Maryland (UMD) from 3-4 May 2016.

In addition, the DDoGS will also be hosting a pre-meeting Workshop at UMD on 2 May 2016, the theme for this meeting will be Doctoral Mobility.

Research Leaders meeting

All senior colleagues directly involved in oversight of research, research impact, collaborations and connections with industry are invited to attend the RL meeting, during which, alongside general sharing of best practice, key topics for discussion will include:

  • Influencing national governments and global initiatives
  • Communicating the value of research to the public
  • International Research Collaborations across the U21 network

Deans and Directors of Graduate Studies meeting

All senior colleagues directly involved in oversight of Graduate Schools, graduate student experience and mobility are welcome to attend the DDoGS meeting, where best practice will be shared, along with discussion of activities and priorities for graduate development. Discussion topics will include:

  • Employability skills
  • The Student – Supervisor Relationship
  • Replacement of the Graduate Research Conference
  • Future of the Doctorate

Pre-meeting Workshop hosted by the DDoGS

Following the success of last year’s pre-meeting workshop on Research Supervisor Support, the DDoGS will again be hosting a pre-meeting workshop.

The theme for this year’s workshop is ‘Doctoral Mobility’. While the full programme is still being worked on and will be available nearer the date of the workshop, the outline plan includes a morning session on ‘Opportunities and Challenges’ around doctoral mobility with an afternoon session focussed on experiences of students (and their supervisors) who have undertaken mobility and sharing of best practice.

We are pleased to host Suzanne Ortega (President of the Council of Graduate Schools) who has agreed to participate in the workshop and join in the discussions.
