U21 Student Summit
In May 2013, the first U21 Student Summit was hosted by University of British Columbia in Vancouver. The event ran alongside the U21 AGM and Presidential Symposium attended by presidents and senior staff from across the network, and aimed to give students a stronger voice within the U21 network.
The event was very successful, and gave students the opportunity to make a presentation to the Presidents based on their workshop discussions.
On the basis of recommendations from UBC, the U21 Student Summit 2014 at the University of Glasgow will invite students to give a presentation at the Presidential Symposium, and will also schedule time for a full follow-up discussion and action plan facilitated by U21 Managers, in order that the network can benefit fully from student proposals in the year ahead.
2014 Student Summit Overview
The theme chosen for the 2014 Student Summit is:
How can universities best prepare students for the careers of the future?
The Summit will offer a stimulating and varied programme of speakers and workshops, and will promote shared learning and participation from across the network’s universities, cultures and geographical locations. We are currently working on workshop development and will provide more detail early in 2014.

Accomodation, Transport and Catering
The University of Glasgow will provide accommodation for all student guests at a hotel within walking distance of campus.
Where possible, transfers from the airport will be provided but student travel costs must be met by members.
All catering for the duration of the event will be provided by Glasgow.
Please note that all students must first be nominated by their university before registering for this event.
- Member universities are invited to send 1-3 students to attend the Summit, using their own selection criteria.
- The event is most suited to undergraduate students, as the careers focus will not be specifically geared around academia.
- Although some students may also be elected Student Leaders at their own institution, this is not a requirement, and we would encourage participation by students who are involved in student life in a variety of ways.
