U21 Health Sciences Group meeting
This year's meeting will explore two main themes:
1. The Digital Revolution and the Era of the e-Patient
The digital revolution and the adoption of social and new media technologies by patients, medical educators, practitioners and pharmaceutical companies has, in just a few short years, transformed the relationship between healthcare providers and patients. The era of the e-patient poses a series of challenges and opportunities in the context of healthcare practice including: the social media led transformation of traditional patient/practitioner relationships; online reputation management for students and practitioners; regulatory, privacy and ethical issues; and the role of social and digital media in medical education.
2. Clinical Leadership in Healthcare Delivery and Patient Safety.
Healthcare services internationally must undergo radical change if they are to be sustainable from a quality and cost perspective. Major change is already underway in the United states and a number of other countries. Achieving change in healthcare requires a different approach to other environments and because of factors unique to health services is dependent on clinicians being willing to and being allowed to lead the transformation.
