The
first U21 Graduate Research Conference will take place from 20
to 25 July 2008 at the University of Birmingham, with Water as the
theme.
The Graduate Research Conference is open to students from any
discipline studying at a U21 institution, but as places are limited,
you should check with your own university regarding their procedure
for applications.
Water
is vital for life and well being. Its control, supply, quality and
use represent some of the greatest challenges to mankind. Solving
these challenges will in many cases require multidisciplinary
approaches.
The skills and knowledge developed in this summer school
will be important for your professional development.
- You will be asked to communicate your research to those
outside your field.
- You will attend keynote lectures from high profile speakers
in a variety of research areas
- You will hear about different areas of research in
which water is a key component.
- You will set up networks with other researchers with whom
you may collaborate in future
- You will visit sites where water was vital in the industrial
revolution.
- You will work in multidisciplinary teams to provide
innovative solutions to real issues related to water
- You will enjoy cultural events on a water theme
The participation fee is £400 per student - check with your
institution as to how this will be financed, as some universities offer
assistance in paying this!
The fee includes:
- En-suite accommodation in our campus conference park
- All meals throughout the conference
- The full academic programme
- Visits and activities relating to the Conference theme
- Social and cultural visits and entrance fees for organised
activities
