U21 E-learning Conference: The Future of E-learning Has Arrived!
Prior to the conference, delegates had the opportunity to visit Tecnológico de Monterrey’s outstanding Virtual University and learn about the way in which the university teaches across its 33 campuses and beyond. The delegates then travelled to the Guadalajara campus, where the main conference took place. In just under two days, 19 delegates presented a variety of papers and case studies on the subject of e-learning, alongside two highly motivating key-note speeches by Professor Murray Goldberg, creator of WebCT and adjunct professor at UBC and also Professor Jan Herrington, who was beamed in from the University of Wollongong, Australia to give her fascinating talk on authentic assessment in e-learning by video conference. As well as hearing some very interesting discussions and presentations, delegates also had some excellent networking opportunities and strong working relationships were formed among the participants which will help to further strengthen the international links created by the U21 network. Tecnológico de Monterrey’s hospitality was second to none and at the end of the conference a number of delegates were already looking forward to the next event, tentatively pencilled for 2008. In the meantime, however, a working group has been formed to develop plans for a U21 on-line learning centre – more about this and a more formal conference report from Mike Goldberg to follow in the coming months.
