In a time when Asia matters so much to the world, especially Australia, Singapore is the place to be. Despite a predominantly English speaking environment, the region has a variety of cultures, confirming it as the 'crossroad of civilisations'. My time in Singapore has allowed me ot learn about the Malay, Tamil and Chinese cultures that dominate the country; though my new friends from the Middle East, South Asia, China, North and South America and Europe have opened my eyes to more cultures than those right in front of me. Its close geographical proximity (and the cheap flights) to the rest of Southeast Asia have allowed me to travel to nearly all of the 'ASEAN' states, though a few weekends have been spent lazily on the nearby island beaches of Indonesia and Malaysia!
