About U21Global

What is U21Global?

U21Global is an online university committed to providing quality online higher education in a global marketing place. It was formed in 2001 when Universitas 21 entered a major education partnership with Thomson Learning. This partnership created a joint venture, U21Global, with headquarters in Singapore.  In 2007, Thomson announced a shift away from higher education and a wish to sell off their educational assets and in late 2007 a new joint venture agreement was signed between U21 and Manipal Universal Investments Limited (MULI), a subsidiary of one of the largest and most successful private higher education operators in India.

Why an online university?

Universitas 21 is uniquely positioned to invest international credibility, brand recognition and quality assurance into new global educational partnerships. All Universitas 21 universities have already made considerable progress in enriching their campus-based learning environments by drawing on new information technologies and cognate pedagogical developments. Engagement through U21Global in online distance education is an important catalyst for continuing and guiding such developments. It also provides a vehicle through which Universitas 21 can contribute to the solving of one of globalisation's most acute problems: how to bring higher education to the estimated 85 per cent of the world where traditional solutions are demonstrably inadequate.

Who assures the quality of U21Global?

To ensure that the highest academic standards are maintained, Universitas 21 has established an independent review body (called U21pedagogica) which reviews the quality of U21Global subjects and the qualifications of its teaching staff. This process ensures that the degrees and subjects offered by U21Global meet the standards of Universitas 21 members worldwide. U21pedagogica is a wholly owned subsidiary of Universitas 21.

Who awards the qualifications?

The MBA programme is awarded by U21Global (registered by the Singapore Ministry of Education as a Distance Learning Programme). Because the quality assurance steps outlined above are completed by U21pedagogica, the degree certificate awarded by U21Global bears the crests of Universitas 21's members.
